This prototype was produced at Meriden - apparently as an attempt to give the struggling
Co-operative a new boost by offering something to replace the ageing Twins. The bike used
the T160 engine produced by NVT at the old BSA factory at Small Heath.
A compact, good looking bike with a twin downtube frame that allowed for a
clean traditional exhaust pipe system. This bike is fitted with the T160 electric start engine,
T160 instrument cluster, Cambray cast wheels and the petrol tank and seat from a
1973 Twin. Unfortunately this neat arrangement never made it into production.
LEFT
Frontal view showing the clean lines of the exhaust exiting between the twin-downtubes
of the Meriden Twin frame. Note tight clearance to the frame for the oil cooler.
RIGHT
Two oil tanks! The engine is hooked up to the original T160 oil tank (which also acts
as the RHS side panel). The frame is of the Oil-In-Frame type and would have been
perfectly adequate for the job on a production bike.
