CG That picture was taken by me in my garden and I am a member of the Battlesbridge museum volenteers I used to ride it there on Sundays the wheels were one offs according to the magazine articles but can't remember who made them as I gave the new owner the copies of the mag with the bike when I sold it, it was very loud in look's and on the road but it flew like no other Trident aah fond memories eh! . From dealings I had with Reg (can't remember his surname, it'll be in my old business records somewhere) when he built the bike the wheels were from the supplier 'Campbells Geometrics'. Reg and the owner (and founder) of that business were quite close 'on the ground', and became business freinds, I believe. John Campbell? I seem to remember Dartford, Kent, as a location.
Campbells Exhausts is still in business. www.campbellcustom.co.uk I wouldn't know if the business is still in the hands of the original owner.
Anyway - for a while Campbells Geometrics (as they were known then) were offering aftermarket wheels.

Philip Was the name Reg gave to the bike, when he assembled it. That memory had just come to me.

Was Reg a Tubby Cockney Geezer? as I seem to remember him and the bike at a TR3OC meet many years ago at Staplehurst (Cross at Hand) in Kent, and I seem to remember the Purists/Anoraks turned their noses up at the bike!

Philip Well remembered. I've just found my copy of the magazine and the bike was built by Reg Miller. According to the article the bike was originally a 1975 T150V and the colour scheme evolved from just a red seat. The wheels were (are?) prototypes named Renegades, made by John Campbell and intended to be a replacement for the Campbray wheels - with which we are familiar. Only one pair were cast. Reg Miller did some welding for John Campbell and when he acquired the wheels he was given drawings of the Cambray hubs which enabled him to fit them to the Trident. The wheels were 18" for a greater choice of tyres. The swinging arm is a stainless item from JMC. AP brake hydraulics. A North frame was considered but the bike was built like this (street drag style) after the North frame was costed out. Very many changes from standard.
The engine was a Norman Hyde tuned 1000cc conversion but used the 82mm stroked crank with standard muffs bored out and re-linered (to give 850cc with a standard crankshaft). The engine was made to be a "cheater" in classic sidecar racing but had never been fired-up when Reg Miller bought it for a fraction of the build cost. NH reckoned that it was good for 85-90bhp. The exhaust pipework was by John Campbell but the megaphone was inspired by an AJS 7R seen at the NMM.

Ah yes, more of the words of the article (last read long ago) have been brought back to memory by your post, DVT! Thanks. Yes, it was fun to be involved at the time. Many a craic had late at night in the 'Development Shop' (Pub....)
