That's been drilled and tapped by an owner? I had a T160 from brand-new and it was 5/16"UNF, same as your T100D; iirc, mirrors were fitted by the dealer, 5/16" matched both the corresponding hole in the clutch lever pivot and the holes in both clutch and brake lever pivot holes '69- or '70-on.
Also, modern AP Lockheed replacement '73-'78 master cylinder mounting castings are only threaded M8 and have been since about 1980 when AP 'went metric'. Otoh, the Co-op went to the M10-threaded ropund black Bumm mirrors with the black switch clusters '79-on.

Doh! Apologies. The one on my T160 is M8. I'd forgotten I'd fitted an 8 to 10mm adaptor. So
early 5/16 UNF, later M8.
now I am confused, I will try a few bolts, the master cylinder came from Phil Pick and is brand new, it is a Harris item, thanks, Laurie

Apologies for any confusion, but the above information would've been useful in your original post.
Aiui:-
. The master cylinders were originally complete units of cylinder, handlebar mounting and lever, including internal odds-'n'-sods, AP (Automotive Products) having fitted the cylinder to other parts supplied from Meriden.
. These complete assemblies are now supplied (and made by?) L.F. Harris.
. "'73-'78" refers to a mounting that is a 'half' that, when paired with a corresponding switch cluster, forms an assembly that clamps around the handlebar. Originals were clamped together by four (two 1"UH and two 2"UH) 3/16"UNC screws inserted through the master cylinder mounting and screwed into the switch cluster casting.
. "'79-on" refers to the black-painted switch clusters fitted by the Co-op. The master cylinder mounting of these doesn't form a clamp around the handlebar, rather it attaches to the complete switch cluster with four M5x20 Allen screws.
You are actually referring to the master cylinder you're using to work the Dave Madigan-supplied hydraulic drum-brake actuator? If so, iirc from a previous thread, you have a "'73-'78" type, so your reference to "T140" is confusing, the originals were fitted to all disc-brake Triumphs - T160, T150V, T140V, TR7RV and T100D - made between 1973 and 1978.
The mirror thread in the master cylinder mounting you have is likely to be M8, but you are wise to check it with a known bolt.
