I have just been alerted to the fact that Wassell now owns the Lucas name and is selling Emgo parts in what appear to be genuine Lucas boxes. In fact this is the same MO as with the JCC pistons being sold in what look to be "real" Hepolite boxes.
You have been warned. Buyer beware.

Thanks, John--forewarned is forearmed!
Volkswagen does that with their parts too. The OEM box proudly says 'made in Germany' whilst the Beru part in the box is stamped 'Made in Ireland'. I was expecting Bosch or Hella, not Beru. If I wanted Beru I'd bought the part at some webshop. Volkswagen was quite annoyed when I confronted them with this.
And let's be honest, with all these Chinese aftermarket parts on the market these days we're actually riding Zong Cheng's instead of Triumph's or BSA's anyways. ;)
Cheers,
Ton
And to make matters worse some people are removing perfectly good serviceable parts likes SKF bearings and replacing them with inferior items in the mistaken belief that they are doing the right thing.
Alan.
Or replace their worn out SKF bearings with new Chinese made inferior SKF bearings. You can't tell the difference from the outside. Same goes for bolts and nuts that do not hold their torque specifications.
It's a desease.
Eyup Triplemeister, this is clearly FRAUD, we should place them in court? Never bought a Wassel product in may life, why? because I like to get there and BACK? Cheers, Dick.
How about that for timing, I looked on Paul Goff's website yesterday and saw "Lucas" headlamp shells with the green and white Lucas boxes and though it a little strange.
"fact that Wassell now owns the Lucas"
not a fact . Wassell have bought a licence to market Lucas classsic bike products, lucas is owned TRW Automotive
That's splitting hairs if I ever heard it and isn't correct anyhow. They are marketing parts from wherever they like (China) in Lucas boxes and paying a royalty to TRW. Lucas hasn't made a headlamp shell, condenser or contact set for a British bike in years.
Concur with John...that's splitting hairs. There should be disclosure on where parts are manufactured, in my opinion. If they have to put country of origin on a friggin T-shirt, it ought to be required on a motor vehilce part! If anyone watched 60 Minutes a week or so ago, the expose on Lumber Liquidators here in the USA was enlightening...example of what companies will do to make more money...and to hell with the buyers. I have bought Chinese made items, and that is fine, but I knew up front what I was buying...and from whom.
When I first moved here 30 years ago I needed to buy a toilet. We went to the local hardware store and found a pretty nice one with "American Standard" as a brand name. I thought that implied a quality, American made item. When we looked a little closer after getting home it had a tiny little stamp on the back of the tank which said "Made in Guatemala".
So much for buying American.
But surely Guatemala is in America just as much as are the US ;)
John, you seem to be agreeing with what West said... TRW does own the brand name and is, apparently, licencing it to Wassell. Wassell will have some "latitude" in how/where they source their parts. Why anyone would compain about this is a little beyond me - people have whinged since the year dot about Lucas. "Prince of Darkness" and "gentlemen not going motoring about at night " and all that crap. If Wassell are making a true Lucas product then perhaps we should not expect too much.
