Hi,
My Boyer Red box is on the blink so was thinking of fitting a Trispark.
l noticed tthat a triple specilist is a distributor for Pazon, so what does this say about Trispark?
Pazon do ' bang on' about their advance curve on their units, so is any better than others?
i have also heard of some intermittent type faults appearing on Trispark.
Any opinions welcome.

I have recent experience of both Tri Spark and Pazon.
I fitted a Pazon and had problems with the bike dropping onto two cylinders and backfiring at random times.It went back twice and no faults were found but clearly there was one which didnt reveal itself on the test bench.Pazon were very helpful but eventually I gave up and purchased a Tri Spark.Fitted it up using the same wiring,leads etc and it hasnt missed a beat since.
They are both very good units.However with the 3 triggers on the tri spark I have found that with the variances in manufacturing of our old girls its impossible to get the timing dead correct,the centre cylinder is 2 degrees retarded from the others.This didnt happen with the Pazon as there is only one trigger.

Please could you elaborate how you get around / set up with the Pazon for adjustieyes for the 2 degrees retard on the centre pot?

I’ve had Tri-Sparks fitted on all my bikes twins, brit triples and Italian triple ... all with huge improvement on original kit no matter what was originally fitted.
in early versions of the of trispark i had the same issues as some others mentioned in cutting out on the odd occasion .. not stopping the bike and all was needed was a quick hit on the kill and back again on the run ... i cured that by running wires avoiding any contact with HT or other alternator type interference ... but still a far better solution that any other system than i had used in the past ... i couldn’t get 50Kms on my Rita or boyer on aussie unleaded fuel on the road without losing a plug ( I carried a pocket full to overcome that and spent a fortune and tried all the exotic iridium plugs to no avail ) ... once the trispark was fitted after a lot of conversation and convincing from steve Kelly for me to give it a go, I did, I have done more than 50,000Ks road miles on the X75 without any issues of plugs fouling since that time ..
i am sure Steve Kelly (the proprietor of tri-spark) won’t mind me sharing this but all technology improves over time including the Tri-Spark ignition …. and thank god it does or we would still using wooden pistons, dynamos and you would be taking your triple back to the factory for poor build quality and pissing oil from the day you bought it …
Around 7 or 8 years ago when Tri-Spark first started ( to fix personal T160 ignition issue only for steve and not as a business at the time ) the only cpu chip available to Trispark from the suppliers on the early versions of the unit was the chip that was fitted .. That chip worked really well and cured so many issues for us in consistent advance curves and good running on ordinary fuel and starting with electric starters ...I can’t imagine how many pistons Trispark has saved on triples with a consistent ignition curve … but it would be a lot.
However that chip set caused an occasional cut out due to external interference from HT or alternating currents once in a while but cured as above if wired to avoid any external interference....this can be difficult depending on model and existing wiring ...
Thankfully as technology advances new chips have since been developed by suppliers and integrated into later versions of Tri-sparks which are far better in avoiding any external interference ... ive run these boxes for a couple of years now including race version for the manx bike and no problem what so ever on road or race in any cutting out whatsoever …
Like I say above all about technology improving …. I just installed windows 8 … haven’t had to do an alt-ctl-del yet but only been a few days … been doing that for 15 years on previous windows operation systems but never bothered complaining to Microsoft .. just lived with it because no point in complaining … at least steve Kelly listens to us and answers email personally ….

The Tri-spark documentation says the unit may operate intermittently if resistor plugs or caps aren't used. Perhaps the reports you hear are made by people who don't RTFM.

Following many problems with the Boyer "red box" system some years ago, I informed Boyer that I would no longer fit the "red box". It turned out that other well known dealers were of the same opinion. I use and fit only the "black box" system, both road and race. No sooted plugs, even tick over as low as you like, instant and positive pick up - great.
I purchased one of the first generation Trispark. So that must be about 5 years of use. Never touched it since it transformed the bike when first fitted. No more sooted up plugs and misfiring issues. (It replaced a Boyer). Reminds me I should check the plugs sometime.
I have been running a Tri-Spark on my 74 T-150 for about 5 years now and I must say it has been great. Although I have experienced intermitent cut out on occasion but it may be that I have the wires from the points chest run too close to the coil wires. I would like to hear from anyone who uses a phazon unit as I am courious, I have several bikes that I will be restoring and the Tri-Spark units ar getting quite expensive here in the US.
I used to have random cutting out of the ignition system on my Trispark and took two actions (at the same time) to try and cure it, which I have, but I'm not sure which action was the decisive one. What I did was; 1. I moved the black box from above the battery/ just behind the coils, to the tool storage area in the plastic part of the rear mudguard (T160), and; 2. I put resistor plugs on the bike (which already has/had resistor caps).
This was 2 years ago, and funnily enough I have just put my non-resistor spark plugs back on to see if the problem re-occurs, and then I'll know which action stopped the cutting out happening.
My T150v came with TriSpark. It has cutting out issues. The
box is mounted on top of electrical tray under seat. Thx for the
tip to move elsewhere.
I use Tri-Spark on my road bikes, all are also fitted with three phases alternators, on one I had the problem sometimes whith intermittent cutting off, it was solved with the Tri-Spark three phases regulator which have an internal capacitor for filtering, before it was a Podtronic....
Very important to have not the wire from the pickup to the box near coils, HT leads or the alternator wire, and they must be crossed each other 90° to prevent interferences.
I have fitted more than 20 friends' triples with Tri-Spark, just one problem with a hall sensor
Also with the Tri-Spark you have to use GOOD coils, not 40 years old coils or "asiatic" coils on the market
Before, my bikes were fitted with Rita or Boyer MKIII, the principal improvement with the Tri-Spark is easy start, the idle stabilisation and a good advance curve, also a lower electrical consumption.
I use NGK iridium spark plugs, BR8 or BR9EIX, with unsuppressed caps, and GOOD HT leads (Tri-Spark ones are perfect)
On my Rickman, now with twin spark, I have a Boyer micropower with three double coils, never had a problem, used now only on track, but I have always a Tri-Spark with me, with three double coils, for exchange, if the Boyer dies !
